16 May

2010 Il Poggione, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli @ 820 HKD/btl
795 HKD/btl for orders of 6 btls or more (Special Offer!)
Only 48 bottles available in HK in late June

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli is a phenomenal achievement and a wine that captures not only the spirit of this classic vintage, but the true essence of an age-worthy wine like Brunello. This single vineyard Riserva is sharp, pristine and immaculate. It starts slow and shy, but then blossoms to beautiful intensity and aromatic brilliance. It delivers a very authentic and genuine read of Sangiovese with wild berry aromas followed by pressed violets, wet earth, tobacco and lightly toasted spice. The bouquet is seamless and very long in persistence. The same holds true for the mouthfeel. The wine delivers a fine and silky texture with a good dose of power and personality at the rear. (Mar 2016) Drink 2018-2040

Ruby red, clear and bright, It has a pinot nose with hints of violets and spice that makes it very pleasant. It is powerful and full of fruit in mouth and has good structure.
Often used as the wine throughout a meal, it is amazing with white meats and goat cheese.

Chateau La Misson Haut Brion 2010, Pessac Leognan @ 3,600 HKD a btl
3,500 HKD/btl for orders of 3 btls or more (Special Offer!) – mixed case welcome!
12 btls available in HK.

A strong candidate for a perfect score in about 15 years, the 2010 La Mission Haut-Brion could well turn out to be a modern-day version of their 1955. Sadly (or maybe fortunately) for me, I’m not old enough to have tasted the 1955 in 1958 from bottle, but this wine could also be an update on the more modern 2000 which, of course, I know well and actually own. This full-bodied, colossal giant of a wine is one of the goliaths of the vintage. It may well have the highest level of natural alcohol for any wine from the Left Bank of Bordeaux (15.1%) and has the definite potential to be a 50- to 75-year wine. Dense purple, it offers up notes of lead pencil shavings, charcoal embers, blueberry and blackberry liqueur along with massive concentration, a multi-dimensional mouthfeel and a monumental finish that goes well past a minute, which I think might be a record for a young Bordeaux. Keep in mind that the 2009, which I gave three digits, came in at 14.7%, but the pH of the 2010 is lower, giving the wine a freshness and precision that is remarkable. The final blend was 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, and – unlike the Chapelle de la Mission, which has 26% Cabernet Franc – there’s only 1% Cabernet Franc in the 2010 La Mission Haut-Brion. This is a wine for those of you with youth on your side as well as patience. It will need a good decade of cellaring. An amazing wine. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2075+.

Chateau Angelus 2010, St Emilion @ 2,550 HKD a btl
2,450 HKD/btl for orders of 3 btls or more (Special Offer!) – mixed case welcome!
12 btls available in HK.

This is another magnificent wine. How much fun will it be to have the 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010 in future tastings to see which vintage comes out on top? They are all candidates that will flirt with perfection, depending on the state of their evolution. The 2010 has a similar color to the 2009, but is perhaps even more opaque, which seems almost impossible. Subtle barbecue smoke, graphite, blackberry liqueur, licorice and chocolate jump from the glass, and the wine hits the palate with a thunderous cascade of sweet, velvety, full-bodied, concentrated black fruits, nice definition from the tannins and decent acidity. The wine has a majestic, multilayered finish that goes on for a minute. This magnificent wine is still frightfully young and still somewhat unformed, but every bit as prodigious as its older sibling, the 2009. This will probably end up evolving on a slightly slower evolutionary track. However, it has 50 years of longevity in it. Robert Parker 99+ pts

Chateau La Conseillante 2010, Pomerol @ 1,550 HKD a btl
1,450 HKD/btl for orders of 3 btls or more (Special Offer!) – mixed case welcome!
12 btls available in HK.

A brilliant effort from this property, known for the sheer elegance and finesse of its wines, the 2010 La Conseillante offers back-to-back monumental efforts, particularly given the remarkable 2009. This estate has been on a hot streak of late. The 2010 is a slightly bigger, richer wine, but without losing its floral, elegant mulberry, black raspberry and sweet kirsch notes. Combine those with some licorice, subtle new oak and a hint of forest floor, and the result is a medium to full-bodied, rich, complex wine that has striking aromatics and perfect balance in the mouth. Forget it for 3-5 years and drink it over the following 30. Robert Parker 96 pts

Marchesi de' Frescobaldi Castelgiocondo, Brunello di Montalcino 2010 @ 475 HKD/btl
465 HKD/btl for orders of 6 btls or more; 450 HKD/btl for orders of 12 btls or more (Special Offer!)
Only 90 bottles available in HK in late June

"Aromas of warm stones, dark fruits and walnuts to follow a full body, soft tannins and a savoury finish. This shows ripe fruit and salty undertones that give it a wonderful juiciness. It’s dense and tight now but will give so much pleasure in the future. Best ever from here. Drink or hold."

Rhiannon 2014, Rutherford Ranch Winery, Napa Valley, California @ 160 HKD/btl
145 HKD/btl for orders 12 btls or more (Special Offer!)
Available in HK

“An absolutely amazing value. The wine, which was aged in French oak, displays a dense ruby/purple color and an attractive nose of blackberries, licorice, tar and a touch of subtle smoke. It is medium-bodied and has surprising density as well as intensity for a wine at this price range.”
